We got Skype on PSP Firmware 3.90-M33!

8:20 am February 7th, 2008

Wow… Sony finally did something realllly cool - they included Skype on firmware 3.90. Wonder how much of the decision to include Skype in the latest firmware was based on homebrew pressures to do a similar trick. I mean, anyone who has been fiddling around with a modded PSP has known that this little beastie can do lots of neat little tricks (evil grin). What’s even better about all this is that Dark_Alex has graced us with another installer so mod fans may upgrade to 3.90 while keeping the ability to use *some* homebrew apps.

Now on that note, about the *some* homebrews… I plan to test various apps for compatibility from time to time and post the results. I have three systems (1.50, 3.40OE-A and 3.90-M33) and will report if a given app will work on one or all of them. Keep your peepers glued here for the release of the first list.

How You Can Help SquidlyAIR

10:27 pm February 5th, 2008

I was able to cobble together a one-sheet that helps set in motion how you (yes, YOU) might be able to help out with the SquidlyAIR podcast. If you are interested in having your lovely voice recorded and swapped the world over by motivated Sailors, check out the link (PDF).

I can’t wait to begin working with you!!

Oopsie… Old pub!

1:06 pm February 4th, 2008

Looks like I forgot to update one of the pubs in the file section. Seems I had the older US Navy Uniform Regulations manual still in there - it’s been removed and the post-2006 version is up for your perusal. Only down side: It’s HUGE (90M zipped vice the 10M old version). Direct link to the newer version: HERE. Luckily, SquidlyAIR 002 is still usable :).

SquidlyAIR - 002 - Navy Grooming Standards

10:36 pm January 31st, 2008

Here it is, episode 002 of the SquidlyAIR podcast. In this show I cover what the Blue Jacket’s Manual and the U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations (NAVPERS-15665I) say about personal grooming. Also, the Navy history lesson is on the battle between the Bonhomme Richard (commanded by John Paul Jones) and HMS Serapis during the American Revolution.

SquidlyAIR - 001 - NAVEDTRA 14145 Ch 4

10:22 pm January 23rd, 2008

Alright, I am trying something new. A podcast… Yep, something none of the other AIR sites have tried (yet). Download the first episode HERE (64Kbit - 7M version) or HERE (32Kbit - 3.5M version). An RSS feed will go up in a few days - when I fix a couple of minor local site glitches… Contact me at SquidlyAIR [at] gmail for any constructive comments, requests or encouragement.

The goal of the SquidlyAIR podcast is to assist US Navy Sailors in preparing for their respective rating exams… And to help them shore up on topics seen on the average advancement exam.

In the beginning, I plan to offer this podcast on a weekly basis. Each podcast should keep to 10 - 15 minutes in length and will be focused for the widest audience. As I go along, and as other Sailors join the effort to help others advance, I may offer this podcast on a more frequent basis. More will be posted on the website as it comes available. For more information on helping out, contact me at the email address mentioned above.

In the inaugural post of the SquidlyAIR podcast, I cover a section of chapter 4 of NAVEDTRA 14145 (Military Requirements for Petty Officer First Class) and relay a one minute Navy history lesson on the USS Pueblo. The theme music is “Stuff From The Basement” by Nemus.

24C3 Complete & Vids Are Up

5:02 am January 1st, 2008

Wow… This has got to be a record for any security/hacker conference. While the event was still ongoing someone was posting MKV and MP4 (as well as a couple MP3 and OGG audios) torrents of the presentations at the 24th Chaos Communications Congress (27-31 Dec 2007). And since I *again* was unable to attend, due to fudiciary constraints, I am relagated to downloading them all : /. Luckily I have been able to collect about 53 of them since yesterday. Below are a list of the torrents I used. If I find any videos that fit areas of interest (or study) for my site I will post them for download Turns out the CCC peeps, and others, were nice enough to make all of the torrented vids available for download. Hit the following link for more information on those sites:

Download my DefCon15 presentation

8:31 pm August 30th, 2007

Alrighty… I’ve been debating this for a couple of weeks, and have decided to be brave.  I have posted the video of my DefCon15 presentation (direct link HERE - R-Click & Save).  I must apologize for the epic “uuuhhhs,” the curse words and verbal goofs - I was nervous…  Enjoy.

My DefCon demo videos are up!!

2:22 pm August 16th, 2007

Well, it’s done. My updated and corrected slides are in (check the Haksys Files area). You may now also view the video demos I showed at DefCon15 - two ways. Download the higher resolution versions (of my videos) directly from this site (*cough* Files), or watch them on YouTube - PSP VNC and PSP SSH2 and PSP GPS.

My voice is still a little off, with the cold, but I plan to make a couple of attempts at recording that voice track to the slide show I gave at DefCon15. When it’s done and converted to Shockwave, you’ll get a link to it from here. Hope to have it up before the official DefCon vids hit everyone’s mailboxes :).
